I think it needs to be mentioned that there is a brand new resturant called The Blue Aquarium in McAllen, TX. This review is for the new restuarant. While the restaurant was decorated nicely, the wait staff was friendly and nice, the food was not great at all. I was really disappointed with the menu and the taste of the food. Since the side items were ala carte, I don't think the main dishes were good at all.You would think that the main dish would be the bomb if side items (which are not big enough to share) are sold 'seperately' The drinks were great though...but I think they got them from the restaurant next door. I think if they beefed up the menu and maybe worked with the chef on menu selections as well as taste, they may survive. The piano player was ok but we were the only table in that night so I guess he couldn't really put on a Billy Joel concert for just us. Again, I don't have any complaint about the wait staff, but the food was really disappointing. For that price, I do not think the food was worth it. If you are taking suggests, I sugguest you change the menu to make use of all those shrimps, cut out all that ala carte jazz, and just serve good food!!!

Where do I begin...it was a Thursday night and we were the only table in the entire place all night (that should have been our first clue). Other reviews on this site talk about salmon 10 or so different shrimp dishes at $20 a plate with overcooked, tasteless shrimp (you could do better at Red Lobster one of the dishes had a sauce that was very mayo based...how cheap!) a few pasta choices on average of $16 a plate with mushy pasta (you could do better at Olive Garden) a few steak choices at prices around $35+, which is too high for this type of restaurant. Keep in mind that anything else you want such a salad or sides like potatoes or veggies are all al a carte (around $5+ each and not big enough to share...even though they told you they were). You will easily walk out of there at $50 per person without ordering appetizers & even getting the cheaper menu items! Our dinner was a third cheaper at the Santa Fe Steakhouse & the food was 100% superior to the Blue Aquarium. They have a lot of work to do if the want to keep their reputation of an upscale restaurant. We were very disappointed.
